Crazy for Cabana Stripes

I have recently happened upon a wonderful vintage rattan patio set.The set features a sofa, chair, and glass top occasional table. When I purchase it at an estate sale, it was dirty and worn. I revamped it by spraying the set in Rustoleum's gloss white spray paint and it looks amazing! Our front porch has needed a facelift for a while. Now that I have patio furniture, I have my eye on adding some black and white cabana striped cushions. Here is some of my inspiration:

I'm Back....

....back in the blogging groove! Has anyone seen that commercial where the couple is road trippin' it across the country until they end up in NYC? That song is now constantly stuck in my head. Anywho, while being absent from blogland we have conquered several DIY projects I'd like to catch you up on. So, over the next few days I will be posting all that you have missed.

First off, let's talk about the "Vintage door corner shelf". After perusing through several antique stores, I quickly fell in love with these pieces, but not the prices. (Some were priced as much as $1200.yikes!) So, my talented husband made me one himself for less than $60! I absolutely love the way it adds interest to our upstairs hallway. Everyone has a corner in their home that could use some love. Ours is painted a creamy white and lightly distressed for a cottage feel. He added a gold plated crystal knob for just the right touch of elegance. I couldn't be more Pleased!

Pretty Porches

'Tis the season....With summer approaching, it is time to whip out the sweet tea and enjoy the outdoors. It is the season for listening to the crickets chirp and chatting with family and friends as the days stretch longer. I have been thinking about porches lately and am inspired by the images below. Aren't they stunning? Enjoy!

Mayberry on the coast: Seaside, Florida

ahhh Seaside. If you haven't been, you must. It's one of the many gems along the Florida panhandle's Emerald coastline. (No pun intended) It is a perfectly quaint coastal town filled with colorful coastal bungalows and hip, breezy restaurants. No wonder the movie, "The Truman Show" was filmed here. The town is lined with sidewalks that run along the shore, where kids with ice cream cones ride their bikes all day. At night, the town "green" features outdoor movies, where families bring blankets and enjoy the warm salty air. People from all over enjoy frolicking in the outdoor flea market by crystal waters.Seem perfect? That's because it practically is.

Spring Cleaning

Colt has been sick, so I haven't had much time to blog. With the arrival of spring (and toddler germs to get rid of), it is time to get into spring cleaning mode. Below is a link to some cleaning tips from Martha Stewart:

Savoring Strawberries

Upon receiving the new issue of Southern Living Magazine in the mail, I've been re-obsessing over strawberries ever since. This popular superfruit has many advantages other than as a food. Did you know that actress Catherine Zeta Jones brushes her teeth with mashed strawberries in order to maintain a whiter smile?

There is also a great homemade strawberry sugar body scrub that is great for exfoliation, and beautiful glowing skin.

The front cover of the April 2012 issue of Southern Living features this delectible Strawberry Meringue Cake which I can't wait to try!

These strawberry-margarita spritzers are another must try from Southern Living:

Add a sweet tang to your meat with this Strawberry Salsa :

Cool off with these refreshing homeade Strawberry-Lemon Popsicles:

Now I need to head to the farmer's market and stock up on a lot of strawberries!

Aqua Ikat Love

I'm not going to lie. When I received the new Ballard Designs catalog for March in the mail, I was excited. This is primarily because it is filled with page after page of  furniture and accessories in the same aqua ikat I recently had made for my living room sofa pillows. The fabric is Laura Ashley tilbury lapis and is a beautiful print featuring hues of aqua, kelly green, tan, and cream. Who knew Laura Ashley would create something so chic? The fabric has been used by many noteworthy designers, and here is just a little inspiration for you to enjoy:
